Grow Your SB Cashback Network

This looks like a viable idea for MH gamers.
If it works, the more senior amongst us will have no shortage of Super Brie, and the newer hunters will have a serious avenue to gain gold. It beats "begging for gold" - although it could instead breed "begging to sell SB" - but that's a nicer situation.
Face it, Novices and Apprentices have it tough in growing gold by merely catching itsy-bitsy mice. It's not better for Journeymen too, but it does begin to get sweeter by the time you reach Master.
The Mousehunt Toolbar by HitGrab is programmatically integrated to the Mousehunt Game, and can give hunters up to 3 SB+ per day. You just have to do 9 yahoo searches directly from that toolbar, relevant or otherwise. (Hitgrab does earn money from FreeCause, the Toolbar Company for the search traffic, but that's a different story)
Back to this story.
The point is that Novices, Apprentices and possibly even Journeymen, don't need Super Brie to bait their traps. Instead, they could sell their collected SB to a senior hunter. Senior hunters normally get access to stronger mice with bigger bounties, so gold is not the constraint.
With this "new economy", new hunters could seriously earn a Swiss Army Trap in a week. That's for SB selling at an average of about 3000 gpp.
If anyone has already set up a FB Group to manage this new economy and network, I'll give it a mention here.
Warning. This is NOT a call to go create 100 FB/MH accounts. FB has a strict shutdown policy. MH keeps an audit of every transaction you make. It's really very easy to detect devious behavior. Play nice.

The verdict is still out on the effectiveness of this cheese..

[Apr 2010]
One year later, we find that this cheese drives lots of mice crazy. Most important of this, is the Curious Chemist.

Glitchpaw Mouse

The Glitchpaw Mouse (thanks, April Hughes!) Kind of a mixed bag with this mouse. You won't see this unless there is something broken in the MouseHunt game that needs fixing. But it is a nice touch by the developers to distract the hunters. Could appear anywhere, when on the loose..

Lagoon

Catch a little Fairy Mouse, Horn yourself a tune! Come down from your Gnarled Tree house, Head to the Lagoon!
[Latest on 5 Jun]
If you've not yet caught a Troll Mouse, you have another challenge ahead. Now you need to catch a Hydra Mouse that would hopefully drop a special blueprint.
Long story short - Collect everything that is indicated on the blueprint, craft a ship, get on that ship to Rodentia..

I was successful in my hunt! I caught a 7 oz. Nomad mouse from the Lagoon worth 3,394 points and 5,007 gold.

MHGuide Mailing List

Hey Readers,
I'm starting the Mousehunt Guide mailing list so that we can get a little closer. The intent of this list is to make two-way communication a little better.
Yes, we are all used to being on mailing lists and get pumped with stuff all the time. I don't like it happening to me either. So my promise is that I won't send out stuff more than once a week. And seeing how busy I sometimes get outside of Gnawnia, it'll probably really be a mail in 2 or 3 weeks.
The two-way I want to enjoy is that sometimes, I just can't get to all the new places, buy all the new traps, catch all the new mice, in the shortest sensible time to maintain the excitement in this blog. The current case in point is that I'm still stuck out waiting for the Gnarled Tree Map!
So I need your collective help ! Through this channel, you can also help the rest of the readers by submitting your encounters and screen shots directly to me. I'll post it and give due credits.
I'm making it equally easy to subscribe and unsubscribe from the MouseHuntGuide Mailing list. I'm using Bravenet.com for the mailing list service - looks reputable, has strong General Terms of Service (see Section 13). It's also free - so it may take some time to register a subscription/unsubscription, subject to their available server load.
Please do join the list. See you soon!

Great Gnarled Tree

The Great Gnarled Tree is the second area found in the Whisker Woods.
For those of you who are lucky (and I've learned that wearing red underpants helps), you would have gotten your Gnarled Tree Map Piece from the elusive Cyclops..
For those of us still sitting, drinking and having raucous conversations at the Calm Clearing, we just have to sit, drink and chat some more..
You may go ahead and comment how long you have been sitting out here with us waiting for that map..
When you finally get in, don't forget to visit the Trapsmith to buy your Venus Mouse Trap!

Farming Stale Cheese

Stale Cheese is the main ingredient of Ancient Cheese
There will be days which you have no choice but to rough it out and farm Stale Cheese.
This means that you will have to choose a trap combi that has a really bad Cheese Effect, put a piece of cheese on it, and camp out in a really rough part of town.
One suggestion is the Sinister Portal on the Explosive Base, and staying in the Lab or Mousoleum.
What kind of cheese to use? Well, if you're going to let it get stale anyway, choose the cheapest cheese.
If you already have access to the Catacombs, that's the White Cheddar for you (Curds&Whey @ 3pp, Catacombs + Salt @ 2pp, Harbour/Bazaar).
Otherwise, you're stuck with normal Cheddar @ 10pp, from Gnawnia.

Compare Ambrosial Portal vs Sinister Portal

You've finally battled your way to the Town of Digby, and are now faced with the pricey question:
Do I buy the Ambrosial Portal or the Sinister Portal
How do they compare?
At about 140k each, it looks like a tough one to decide. But not really.
Personally, I prefer the Sinister.
You will have no shortage of mice coming at you in the coming areas, so the Attraction Bonus of the Ambrosial is not really necessary. The Shadow Mice are tough little critters, so the Sinister's Power Bonus helps put them down.
The Stale effect of the Sinister Portal Trap is also no longer a bother. In this later version of Mousehunt, you no longer toss Stale Cheese away. Instead, they become crafting items for other cheese (Ancient).
Well ok, the Ambrosial Portal IS prettier and more mouse-safe.. but come on...

Proof that technology developed in the Burroughs' Laboratory can be used in a more 'gentle' manner, this portal has opened a one-way entrance into a cheesey paradise.

Abominable Snow Mouse - Mont Blanc

The Abominable Snow Mouse was first seen during Christmas.
But now they're just seen in plain white, mostly at the Mountains.
It's a different type, but my Snow Barrage would make short work of it..

Venus Mouse Trap

Venus Mouse Trap ( 1,900 Tactical Power )

Buy it at the Trapsmith at the Great Gnarled Tree

The carnivorous plants that grow near the Lagoon of Whisker Woods are often harvested by Trapsmiths and grown to supernatural size by unnatural means. The result is a highly effective and well-camouflaged mouse adversary.

It used to be that this was an optional buy. But now that there is a powerful upgrade path at the Tribal Isles, you've just got to plan about saving money for this at some point of time.

Calm Clearing

The Calm Clearing is the first location in the new Whisker Woods Region. You only need to be a Journeyman to get there, so it's a great detour for newer players. To get to it, you'd need a Whisker Woods Clearing Map Piece. Trap a Granite Mouse at the Harbour.

Foxy Mouse

The Foxy Mouse is currently THE mouse to catch in Calm Clearing. Haven't caught mine yet, but go ahead and tell me how you caught yours.

Eagle Owl Mouse

The Eagle Owl Mouse swoops in rarely. Managed to catch this with an Ambush/Deyh/Swiss.
I was successful in my hunt! I caught a 1 oz. Eagle Owl mouse from the Calm Clearing worth 5,300 points and 2,251 gold.

Cyclops Mouse

Caught my Cyclops Mouse with an Ambush/Dehy/Swiss. It doesn't appear often. And now it drops the Gnarled Tree Map Piece and opens up the Great Gnarled Tree Location.
I was successful in my hunt! I caught a 5 oz. Cyclops mouse from the Calm Clearing worth 2,796 points and 2,805 gold. The mouse also dropped the following loot: 1 gnarled tree map piece.

Elven Princess Mouse

Don't know how Elven Princess Mice mixes into the Mouse Hunt world yet, but I guess we'll see it unfold. Rare but not too difficult to catch. Good bounty.
I checked my trap and found that I had caught a mouse! I caught a 1 oz. Elven Princess mouse from the Calm Clearing worth 2,700 points and 401 gold.

Sylvan Mouse

The Sylvan Mouse hides well in the flora. But with swiss cheese, no problems.

Shaman Mouse

I guess the Shaman Mouse wandered too far out from the deeper parts of the Whisker Woods.. (hint for new areas to come)

Wiggler Mouse

I wonder how big the Wiggler Mouse grows before it metamorphosizes into some flying mouse..

Moosker Mouse

Lots of Mooskers around the Calm Clearing too..

Chameleon Mouse

A little harder to spot. I wonder if the Chameleon Mouse prefers Marble?

Bear Mouse

Looks a little Doh! The Bear Mouse isn't too hard to trap either.

Treant Mouse

No, that's not a root you tripped over.. Just one of the numerous Treant Mice around.. It sometimes drops Splintered Wood.. Decent bounty.
I checked my trap and found that I had caught a mouse! I caught a 2 oz. Treant mouse from the Calm Clearing worth 1,299 points and 602 gold.

Frog Mouse

The Frog Mouse is probably the first mouse you catch when entering the Calm Clearing. No biggie. Hope you didn't spend more than Swiss Cheese..

Acolyte Mouse

The Boss of the Acolyte Realms. The Acolyte Mouse as a weakness for Runic Cheese, but rarely comes out..

I've to say that I'm not one of those that managed to catch this mouse with the Acronym.

But hey! Now! nine months later! With the Ancient Box Trap and the Runic Cheese, I've finally caught mine!

Sometime along the line, the Acolyte Mouse started dropping Mysterious Boxes. Sometime later, these could be opened.

The Acolyte also drops the Frozen Scroll - an important ingredient to building the Ice Maiden Trap.
Years ago, it was the Acolyte mice that brought necromancy to the face of the Kingdom. Their undead creations rose from the depths of the Catacombs for the sole purpose of destroying Gnawnia.

Hunter's lore states that the first ever MouseHunter devised a way to turn the spells of the Forgotten Book against the Acolytes and banish them to another realm of existence, somewhere between the dead and the living. Had it not been for the heroic efforts of this MouseHunter named Plankrun, the small village of Gnawnia may never have become the prosperous town it is today.

With their long-feared return, the Acolyte mice have amassed their creations, preparing and organizing for the only reason they exist: to eradicate each and every MouseHunter!

Lich Mouse

Another tough one at the Forbidden Grove. The Lich Mouse prefers Runic

Wight Mouse

The Wight Mouse only reacts to the Runic Cheese.. Haven't caught my own yet..

Gargoyle Mouse

Spectre Mouse

Boo! Scarier than your average Ghost Mouse..

Gate Guardian Mouse

The Gate Guardian Mouse can be found on both sides of the gate. That's the Forbidden Grove side and the Acolyte Realms side. Ancient Cheese please

Gorgon Mouse

The Gorgon is found all over the Bristle Woods.

Reaper Mouse

Reaper's are somewhat rare, but easy meat.

Keeper's Assistant Mouse

Big. Strong. Unfriendly. Easily taken out by your Acronym.

Skeleton Mouse

The Skeleton Mouse found in the Bristle Woods, mostly in the Forbidden Grove and the Acolyte Realms.

New Sections

Hey Readers, thanks for following this blog. I've now arranged a couple of new posts so that your Journey into the Mousehunt World will be as easy as ABC.
  • Areas - about Locations
  • Beasts - about the Mice
  • Cookbook - Crafting matters, of course
  • Devices - Traps, Cheese and stuff
  • Elements - Other interesting parts and ingredients of the game
  • Fans - Stuff created and maintained by avid hunters
  • Gameplay - walkthroughs, tips and more
I believe it's a good way for the new and inexperienced to find stuff. Seasoned hunters should also find a good crumb or three. It's also a good way for me to keep tabs of what I'm missing. But it's still a work-in-progress, so please be patient with me. Do tell me what you think! Enjoy!
